Student Count day is Wednesday, February 10th. Please make sure your student is at school this day! It is very important. We will also be taking our last NWEA test (Reading) on this day. In order for us to send out test results on Friday, all students must take their tests by this day.
Below you will find the information from Seitz Middle School about testing out of 6th grade math. If your student would like to take the placement test, please download and read through the information provided. The testing session will be on Saturday, May 7th at 9am. If students are interested in studying for this exam, please let me know. I can set up their Khan Academy accounts with some of the 6th grade math standards and they can work through them at home or in their spare time at school. If there is enough interest, I am also willing to set up times to work with students after school on the 6th grade standards. Feel free to contact me with any questions! Mrs. Majewski
Attached below is an overview of what we will be learning in Module 2, which we started right before Christmas. Please check my Student Resources page for homework help and helpful math videos.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas break! We are back in full swing in 5th grade at Huntington. Here are some important dates to keep in mind for January:
January 4th - Return to school from break January 8th - Science Fiction games due January 18th - MLK Day; No school for students January birthdays: Kaden - 18th Alexa - 21st Debra - 24th This month we will also begin working with our 8th grade STEM buddies at the Middle School. Students will be working on various STEM projects once a month with their 8th grade buddies. We will be doing this the second Monday and Tuesday of each month. We have a lot of fun things planned for this week!
Today we will be going to the Middle School for 45 minutes to do an activity with the 8th grade STEM students. This activity will get students excited and prepared for our Inventions and Innovations day on Thursday! Wednesday afternoon we will be having food and doing Christmas crafts for our Holiday celebration. If you volunteered to send in something, please do so on Wednesday. Thursday is a day that we have been excited about for weeks! We are going to be having an Invention and Innovations Day. Students will spend time programming Ev3 robots, programming animations on Scratch, designing STEM projects, and will manipulate current using Makey-Makey. On Friday, students can wear their pajamas to school and we will be watching a movie. Students have a half day and dismissal is at 11:35. Have a very happy and safe Holiday! Mrs. Majewski Friday, December 4th is the end of the first Trimester. Students have a half day that day and will be dismissed at 11:35am. Students will have a late start on Monday, December 7th. School starts at 12:05 that day for students.
Science projects have been collected and will be graded this week. Any student who has not turned in their Science project will be having their lunch in my room and will work to finish it during that time. Projects that are not completed by Friday will receive a 0% and will result in an E in Science!!! We spent our time in Science today learning how to format text boxes in Word so that students could get started on typing the sections of their project. They will be given their poster boards on Friday so that I can instruct them on how to fold the boards. They will be bringing them home Friday afternoon.
If they are still having trouble with their Research Paragraphs - please ask to see their "Scientific Method: The Parts of an Experiment Detailed" packet. It has all the information on what each section will contain, including ideas on what to research. (This packet can also be downloaded below!) An e-mail will be sent out with more specific ideas on what to research for each experiment if this is still an issue. We will continue to work on these projects next week - but again we may not always have computers available to us each day. Have a great weekend! Below is an example of the final product of the Science Project. Students will be getting their poster boards on Thursday, and will spend their Science period working on the project. We will begin our science experiments that follow the Scientific Method this week! Students will work in groups conducting experiments in class, and will put the findings in a report displayed on a poster board. While the experiments will be conducted in groups, all students are responsible for their own research and poster boards. Information will be coming home on Monday about the project. The information that will be coming home can also be downloaded below. Students may want to bring their electronics to school this week to help them with the research portion of the project. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions! Have a great week! Mrs. Majewski
